Final year Hospitality Management student, Carol Radlett is one of seven students from across the UK vying for coveted title of ‘National Student Employee of the Year 2010.
Representing the University of Gloucestershire, Carol has already won the South West regional round and now faces stiff competition against six nominees to win the title of Student Employee of the Year. The winner will be announced on 7 July at the National Association of Student Employment Services annual conference in Dunfermline.
Carol was nominated by her employers Karen and Michael Reynolds, who run the Wyastone Hotel, a 13- bedroom Victorian hotel in Montpellier, Cheltenham.

Carol has worked at the hotel part time during her studies at the University and found the job through the University’s JobShop, a service provided by the Students’ Union to help students find part time work to support them whilst they are studying.
“Carol’s passion for the hotel comes through in everything she does. Her previous experience in working in larger hotels has meant that the sharing of knowledge has worked both ways and we have learnt much from her,” said Mrs and Mrs Reynolds.
“This was such a huge surprise for me, I am thrilled at the prospect of going further, however I am exceptionally pleased that I have got this far. Its opportunities and recognition such as this which really make my job worthwhile and will enhance my future prospects,” said Carol.
Jo Evans, JobShop Coordinator said: “This is the first year that our service has participated in the Student Employee of the Year competition and we are thrilled to have one of our students in the national final. Part-time work is such a huge part of the student experience and it is fantastic to see the amazing contribution students make being recognised.”
The Student Employee of the Year Awards aim to recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who effectively combine part-time work with their study commitments. It is coordinated on an annual basis by the National Association of Student Employment Services.
